Adam Wagner

2015 recipient of the 4-year-renewable Clyde and Mildred Wright Scholarship

My future goals are steeped in my life’s experiences. I am an active citizen, raising awareness about issues that affect people’s lives, assisting neighbors to vote and volunteering with local nonprofits. I engage in numerous extracurricular activities including Teens with a Purpose, a community service club at my school; Teen TV, a video program sponsored by the NC Museum of Natural Sciences; and have produced short promotional films for the Lake Eden Arts Festival. I have also served on several mission trips.

I plan to graduate with a degree in public policy, political science, or international relations. During college I’ll seek out internships, study abroad, and other opportunities to complement my academic learning. I would also like to be part of a diverse educational environment, where I can learn from people of varying backgrounds, integrating, challenging and strengthening my values. I yearn to learn skills necessary to being more effective in my vocation. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.” I want to make a difference in the community as a catalyst for change. Although grassroots organizing and community involvement are essential for progress, I also recognize that effective and lasting change often requires governmental support and implementation. After graduation I am interested in serving in the Peace Corps. I have many aspirations; however, my most important goal is to lead a meaningful life in which I can make a difference in the lives of others.

Adam will attend Georgetown University in the fall of 2015.
