Grants
The Community Foundation makes grants and works with fundholders to support promising projects across Western North Carolina. Through a careful review process, the Foundation's staff and board work together to award grants that strengthen the nonprofit sector. In simple terms, CFWNC grants are an investment in the future of our region.
Sources of our Grant Funds
As a community foundation, we serve many constituencies and fund a wide range of initiatives, organizations and projects. From July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, The Community Foundation distributed $18.9 million, money enabling good work in many communities.

We actively manage more than 1,050 funds, each created by an individual, family, corporation or nonprofit. The types of funds and the sources of our grantmaking funds at 6/30/2016 are illustrated in this chart.
Last year, nonprofits received nearly $4 million through the Foundation’s scholarships and competitive grant programs. Grants recommended by our donors from their donor advised funds comprise $15 million of the total amount distributed this fiscal year. Generous community-minded citizens are having a tremendous impact through their partnerships with the Foundation.
