Recent Grants

Since 1994, The Fund for Haywood County, in partnership with The Community Foundation, has awarded 110 grants to 56 organizations totaling $969,820.

WNC Girls on the Run received $2,050 to enable teams of 3rd to 8th grade girls from five Haywood County schools to participate in the program.

Spring 2017

Mountain Projects, Inc. - $4,147 to purchase building materials for volunteers to build seven wheelchair ramps that will enable disabled individuals to stay in their homes.

Haywood County Arts Council - $4,500 to engage a marketing firm to update their organizational identity and better communicate the scope and impact of their services and relationships with artists, other organizations and the broader community.

Girls on the Run of Western North Carolina, Inc. - $3,500 to provide Haywood County girls with the research-based physical activity, positive youth development program meeting the social-emotional and physical needs of 3rd to 8th grade girls.

Haywood County Public Library - $9,000 from the Mib and Phil Medford Endowment Fund to partner with the Town of Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department to install a StoryWalk® along the Vance Street Park walking trail. A StoryWalk is a family activity that promotes physical activity and early literacy. Pages from a children’s picture book are mounted and spaced apart within sight-distance so that you walk from one to the next to read the book.

Town of Waynesville Public Art Commission - $3,330 from the Mib and Phil Medford Endowment Fund to commission a sculpture by Asheville artist Todd Frahm depicting a Plott Hound, the North Carolina State Dog, brought here to Haywood County by the Plott family from Germany in the 1800s.  It will be installed at the Village of Hazelwood.

The North Carolina International Folk Festival/Folkmoot U.S.A. - Fund for Haywood County co-investment on a $30,000 CFWNC Natural & Cultural Resources Focus Area grant to continue the development of the Folkmoot Center as a Multi-Cultural Exchange location.

Fall 2016

Clothes to Kids of Haywood County - $3,000 to support the purchasing of shoes for children of low-income households through the All God’s Children Need Shoes project.

Community Kitchen - $20,000 to support the construction of two new classrooms for the Building Classrooms & Futures at the Kitchen project.

Fines Creek Community Association - $3,600 to assist the Community Association’s MANNA Pantry with both utility costs and supplemental food for more than 60 families.

Haywood Habitat for Humanity - $20,000 to fund the purchase of a ReStore box truck for donation pick-ups.

Thickety Community Park - $9,500 for the renovation of a building to be used as a community center.
